Front Passenger Seat Occupant Sensor G128
Always replace the front seat cushion whenever the front passenger seat occupant sensor (G128) is replaced.
• The front passenger seat occupant sensor (G128) does not have any influence on deploying the front passenger airbag during a crash.
• The front passenger seat occupant sensor (G128) reminds the front passenger via a symbol in the instrument cluster as well as a warning tone, to buckle up.
• On the front passenger side, a sensor is able to detect if the seat is occupied and if the seat belt has been buckled.
• On the driver side, the sensor is only able to detect if the seat belts has been buckled.
Removing
- Install the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine/transmission holder (VAS 6095).
- Remove the front seat => [ Front Seat ] Front Seat.
- Secure the seat on the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Remove the right trim on the seat. Refer to => [ Right Seat Trim ] Right Seat Trim.
Vehicles with Manual Seat Adjustment
- Remove the left trim on the seat.
- Remove the bracket and the lever on the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat Bracket and Operating Lever ] Front Seat Bracket and Operating Lever.
Vehicles with Electric Seat Adjustment
- Remove the left trim on the seat with power height adjustment. Refer to => [ Left Seat Trim with Power Height Adjustment ] Left Seat Trim with Power Height Adjustment.
- Remove the bracket on the power seat. Refer to => [ Power Seat Bracket ] Power Seat Bracket.
All Vehicles
- Remove the mount for the drawer on the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat Drawer with Bracket ] Front Seat Drawer with Bracket.
- Remove the front seat backrest. Refer to => [ Front Seat Backrest ] Front Seat Backrest.
- Remove the cover and the cushion from the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat Cushion, Cover and Upholstery ] Front Seat Cushion, Cover and Upholstery.
The front passenger seat occupant sensor (G128) - 1 - is glued to the upholstery. It is not possible to remove and install separately, sensor must be replaced with upholstery.
Installation
- Push the wiring harness - 1 - into the rear channel.
- Push the wiring harness - arrows A and B - into the opening in the upholstery.
- Push the sensor - 2 - into the recess in the foam.
Make sure the space around the sensor - 2 - is the same all the way around.
- Hold the sensor - 2 - with your right hand. Peel off the adhesive strip - 3 - and tape the sensor into the foam.
- Peel off the adhesive strip - 1 - and tape the wiring harness into the foam.
- Push the back of the wiring harness into the opening - arrow -.
- Connect the wiring harness to the vehicle electrical system.
Installing of remaining components is reverse of removal.
- After installation, perform a function check with the ignition on.
