Balance Shaft Timing Chain
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Locking Pin (T40011)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
Removing
- Remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] Camshaft Timing Chain.
- Remove the camshaft timing chain guide rail guide pins - 1 - and rail.
- Remove the camshaft timing chain tensioner bolts - 3 - and tensioner.
- Remove the balance shaft chain tensioner - 1 -.
- Remove the tensioning rail guide pin - 2 - and rail.
- Remove the guide rail guide pins - 3 - and rail.
- Remove the guide rail guide pins - 4 - and rail.
- Remove the balance shaft timing chain.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Balance Shaft Timing Chain Overview ] Balance Shaft Timing Chain Overview.
- Rotate the intermediate shaft sprocket/balance shaft to the mark - arrow -.
• The painted links on the timing chain must be positioned on the marks on the chain sprockets.
• Due to the ratio, the marks align only after every 7th turn.
- Install the timing chain; the painted links on the timing chain must be positioned on the marks on the chain sprockets.
- Install the timing chain tensioning rail and tighten the guide pins - 2 -.
- Install the timing chain guide rail and tighten the guide pins - 4 -.
- Install the timing chain guide rail and tighten the guide pins - 3 -.
- Install the timing chain tensioner - 1 - using locking fluid.
- Check this adjustment one more time.
- Check the marks on the intermediate shaft sprocket/balance shaft - arrow -.
• The mark on the intermediate shaft sprocket/balance shaft is shown with the chain removed.
Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.
