Brake Caliper







Brake Caliper

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Brake Pedal Actuator (V.A.G 1869/2)

Removing

Work procedure applies only for replacing or when performing subsequent service work on brake caliper.

- Loosen the wheel bolts.

- Raise the vehicle.

- Remove the wheel.

- Insert (V.A.G 1869/2).






- Attach the bleeder bottle bleed hose - 1 - to the brake caliper bleed valve.






- Open the bleed valve.

- Close the bleed valve and remove the bleeder bottle - 1 -.

- Remove the caps - arrows - from the brake caliper bearing bushings.






- Remove the brake hose connection - 1 - with the banjo bolt - 2 - from the brake caliper.






- Immediately seal brake lines and threaded holes with sealing plugs (1H0 698 311 A).

- Loosen both guide pins - arrows - and remove from brake caliper.






- Remove the brake caliper from the brake carrier.

- Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Before installing, clean carefully and check for wear and damage.

Piston is pressed back.

- Insert inner brake pad (piston side) - 1 - and outer brake pad - 2 - with retaining springs into brake caliper.






Inside brake pad (piston side) with large 3-Finger clip - 1 -.

Outside brake pad with small 3-finger clip - 2 - (black).

- First place the brake caliper - 1 - and the brake pads- 3 - under - arrow A - on the brake carrier - 2 -.






The pin - arrow B - on the brake caliper - 1 - must be behind the brake carrier guide - 2 -!

- Attach the brake caliper - 1 - to the brake carrier with both guide pins - arrows -.






- Install both protective caps.

- Attach the brake hose connection - 1 - and the banjo bolt - 2 - to the brake caliper.






- Remove (V.A.G 1869/2).

- Bleed the brake system. Refer to => [ Brake System, Bleeding ] Service and Repair.

- Install the wheels and tighten them.

Before moving vehicle, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

Check brake fluid level.
