Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051)
Removing
- Get the coding from the ABS control module and write it down.
Use the (VAS 5051).
• Chassis
• Brake System
• Anti-lock braking system ABS/ASR Mark 70
• Function
• Check coding in the ABS control module J104
Remove the ABS hydraulic unit and ABS control module. Refer to => [ ABS Control Module (J104) and ABS Hydraulic Unit (N55) ] ABS Control Module (J104) and ABS Hydraulic Unit (N55).
Plug (1H0 698 311 A)
Install the transportation protection for the valve domes on the ABS hydraulic unit after separating the ABS control module from the ABS hydraulic unit.
The warranty on the ABS hydraulic unit will not be honored if the transportation protection is missing.
1. Transport protection for valve domes (foam)
2. Sealing plug M 10
3. Sealing plug M 12
- Place the ABS hydraulic unit and the ABS control module on a clean level surface facing upward.
- Remove bolts - Arrows -.
- Remove the ABS control module from the ABS hydraulic unit in - direction of arrow - without tilting it.
- Carefully remove all the seals from the valve domes on the ABS hydraulic unit.
• The circuit board is exposed when the ABS control module is removed.
• Protect the ABS control module from moisture and dirt particles from getting inside.
• The hydraulic pump may not be separated from the ABS hydraulic unit.
• Avoid build-up of static electricity!
- Cover ABS control module solenoid coils with a lint-free cloth.
After disconnecting from ABS control module and ABS hydraulic unit, use transportation protection for valve body.
Installing
Assembly is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Excessive shaking (for example, dropping, impact) can damage the ABS control module. Do not use the ABS control module again if this happens.
• Surface must be cleaned before assembling.
- Slide all sealing rings - A - slightly over the valve dome.
- Place the ABS control module on the ABS hydraulic unit without tilting it.
Sealing rings are then brought into their end position.
- Install the ABS hydraulic unit and ABS control module with the new screws provided.
• A new ABS control module can be installed on an old ABS hydraulic unit twice, maximum. This assures the elastic seal will not leak.
• A used ABS control module may not be installed a second time.
If a new ABS control module was installed, it must be coded.
Use the (VAS 5051).
