Instrument Panel Crossmember
Removing
• It may be helpful to make drawings or take photos of any wires that are going to be loosened, removed and then installed. This assures the wires will be reconnected correctly.
- Disconnect the battery.
- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel ] Instrument Panel.
- Remove the wiper arms.
- Remove the plenum chamber cover.
- Remove the bolt - 1 - inside the plenum chamber (20 Nm).
- Remove the expanding pins - 1 - and - 2 -.
- Remove the defroster channel - 5 - from the instrument panel crossmember - 4 -.
- Remove the air distribution - 3 - from the heater and air conditioner.
- Disconnect the steering column from the crossmember.
- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - (20 Nm).
• Mark the height and side position of the crossmember - 2 - in the vehicle around the nuts - 1 - and centering pin - 3 -.
- Remove the nuts - 1 - on the driver side (20 Nm).
• Mark the height and side position of the crossmember - 1 - in the vehicle around the nuts - 2 - and centering pin - 3 -.
- Remove the nut - 2 - (20 Nm) on the front passenger side.
- Remove the harness connector mountings from the crossmember, depending on the equipment level of the vehicle.
- Remove the nuts - 1 - (4,5 Nm).
- Remove the nuts - 2 - (9 Nm).
- Loosen the instrument panel crossmember - 3 - in direction of - arrow - and pull it slightly to the rear.
- Carefully remove the instrument panel crossmember - 3 - from the vehicle with a second technician.
Installation
- Install in reverse order of removal.
• Before installing the instrument panel crossmember, line it up with the markings made before it was removed.
• Check all the fasteners for damage and replace if necessary.
