USB Connection Baseplate (R193)

Installed Location: In Center Console
The USB connection baseplate for connecting USB memory devices (USB memory sticks or MP3 player) can be ordered as an accessory.
The USB storage medium is connected to the USB connection baseplate. The contents can be displayed and selected on Radio/RNS display. The USB connection baseplate provides the voltage for the USB memory device.
Troubleshooting
The USB connection baseplate does not have OBD.

Supported Music Data Formats
Only music files in the following file formats can be played:
• mp3 (MPEG1 Layer 3 from 32 to 320 kbps)
• wma (from 8 to 192 kbps)
• wav (16 kHz sampling frequency with 16 bit encoding, stereo)
• ogg vorbis (to q10, 48 kHz, Stereo)
DMR music formats are not supported!
Supported Storage Media
Trouble-free function is assured only when the memory sticks, MP3 players and radios authorized by Volkswagen are used. The use of memory sticks or MP3 players from other manufacturers may not be guaranteed. However, a minimum qualification is that the memory device has at least one of the two USB certificates.

Proper function is then assured if a Volkswagen radio is installed at the factory. Proper function is not guaranteed when using commercial radios.
Notes on Operation
• Never remove the storage medium as long as the USB connection baseplate is selected as the source (CD). It may destroy the storage medium.
• Do not insert an MP3 player directly in the USB connection baseplate, the connection could be damaged. Always use a USB extension instead.
• Do not connect any other types of devices to the USB connection baseplate other than a USB stick or an MP3 player. It is not possible to play hard drives or USB hubs via the USB connection baseplate.
• The maximum input of the USB memory device must not exceed 2.5 W (500 mA/5 V).
• Never insert any metal objects into the USB connection baseplate. Theses will cause a short circuit and damage the device.
• If the USB connection baseplate does not recognize the storage device after 15 seconds, remove the device and insert it again.
• Some MP3 players must be activated with a button to create the USB connection. Refer to the Operating Instructions.
• The permissible temperature range of USB sticks and MP3 players is limited and often lies between 0° C and 40° C (32 and 104 °F). For this reason, inform the customer that the storage medium must not be left in the vehicle for extended periods.
