Battery
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
Always follow the instructions regarding disconnecting and connecting the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
Removing
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Remove the air filter housing with the mass airflow sensor (G70) and connecting tube.
- Remove the battery jacket - 1 -.
- Remove the bolt - 4 - and the clamping plate.
- Remove the battery - 2 -.
Installing
If the battery is not secured properly, the following risks are possible:
• Shortened battery service life due to vibration damage (explosion hazard).
• If the battery is not secured properly, the plates inside the battery can get damaged.
• Damage to battery casing caused by bracket (possible electrolyte leakage, high subsequent costs).
• Inadequate crash safety.
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Tighten the threaded connections to the tightening specification. Refer to => [ Battery (A) Overview ] Battery (A) Overview.
- Make sure the battery is secure after installing it.
- Connect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Adapt the battery using the (Vehicle diagnostic tester) after replacing it. Refer to => [ Battery (A), Adapting ] Programming and Relearning.
