General Information


The removal and installation of individual steering column switch components must be done in a specified sequence. Refer to=> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.


Always follow the instructions regarding disconnecting and connecting the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

There are two versions of the steering column combination switch (E595) components, of the steering column electronic systems control module (J527) and of the steering column switch base carrier depending on the manufacturer (Valeo or Kostal). In order to determine which version is installed, check the mounting for the steering column electronic systems control module on the steering column combination switch.

Manufactured by Valeo: 3 bolts.

Manufactured by Kostal: 1 bolt at the bottom and two latching mechanisms at the top.

After installing a new steering column electronics control module, it must be coded. Refer to => [ Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527), Coding ] Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527), Coding.

DTC Recognition and Display

The Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527) is equipped with OBD.

Use the Vehicle diagnostic tester under "Guided Fault Finding".
