Dimmer Switch: Service and Repair

Instrument Panel and Switch Illumination Dimmer Switch (E20)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Trim Removal Wedge (VAS 3409)

Check the instrument panel illumination dimmer switch (E20) (from MY 2009), refer to => [ Instrument Panel Illumination Dimmer Switch (E20) Checking, from MY 10 ] Testing and Inspection.


• Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers.

• Remove the key.

• When removing and installing components in visible area (switches, covers, trim, etc.), cover by taping the areas at which a prying tool ( (VAS 3409) , screwdriver) will be positioned using commercially available adhesive tape.

Removal

The instrument panel illumination dimmer switch can be checked with the Vehicle diagnostic tester before removing (from MY 2010), refer to => [ Instrument Panel Illumination Dimmer Switch (E20) Checking, from MY 10 ] Testing and Inspection.

- Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to => [ Headlamp Switch (E1) ] Headlamp Switch (E1).

- Remove the trim on the driver side.

- Disconnect the connector - arrow -.






- Open the tabs - arrows - and remove the instrument panel and switch illumination dimmer switch.






Installation

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
