Clutch Pedal






Clutch Pedal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pliers (T10005)

Assembly Tool (T10178)

Torque Wrench 5-50 Nm (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

Perform the following work:

Vehicles with a Knee Airbag

The knee airbag is installed above the foot pedal assembly.

- Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery Ground (GND) cable.

Continuation for All

- Move the driver seat all the way back and raise the steering wheel to the highest position.

- Remove the drivers side trim and the cover.

Vehicles with a Knee Airbag

- Remove the knee airbag bracket and impact bolster.

Continuation for All






- Remove the cable guide - 2 - from the steering column.

- Remove the footwell vents - 3 -.

Vehicles without Knee Airbag

- Remove the impact bolster - 1 - (bolt - 2 -).






Continuation for All

Remove the damper - arrow - at the bottom of the bracket/clutch pedal, if equipped.






- Remove the washers - A - for the damper.






- Remove the noise insulation.

- Push the damper near the upper nut - 1 - above the clutch pedal - A - in direction of - arrow -.






- Remove the nut - 2 - and bolt - 5 - and then remove the clutch pedal - 1 - from the bracket - 3 -.






- Swivel the clutch pedal slightly forward and remove the over-center spring - 4 - from the bracket.

- Unlock the clutch pedal from master cylinder with (T10005).






- Remove the clutch pedal.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the following:

Replace the self-locking nuts.

- Attach the mount - 2 - to the master cylinder actuator rod - 1 -.






- Press the mounting in until it engages audibly in the clutch pedal - 3 - opening.

- Install the over-center spring - 2 - in the bracket from the top. Hold the end of the spring in its installed position with (T10178) when installing the spring.






- The mounting area - arrow - for the clutch pedal - 1 - pivot pin - A - must be positioned vertically.






- Insert the clutch pedal pivot pin - A - into the mounting cup of the over-center spring.

- Press the clutch pedal slightly, push the bolt through and tighten the self-locking nut, tightening specification.

Some vehicles have a damper - arrow - on the mounting bracket/clutch pedal.






- Move the noise insulation back into its installed position.

Vehicles without Knee Airbag

- Install the impact bolster - 1 - and tighten the bolt - 2 - to the tightening specification.






Continuation for All

- Attach the cable guide - 2 - to the steering column.






- Install the footwell vent - 3 -.

Vehicles with a Knee Airbag

- Install the knee airbag bracket and impact bolster.

Continuation for All

- Install the drivers side trim and the cover.

- If disconnected, connect the battery and complete the steps after connecting the battery.
