Ignition Coil: Service and Repair
Ignition Coils with Power Output Stages
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)
Removing
• Follow all safety precautions. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Safety Precautions.
• Ignition system component overview. Refer to => [ Ignition System Component Overview ] Service and Repair.
• To remove the ignition coils , place the ignition coil puller (T40039) on the top most thick rib - arrow - of the ignition coils with power output stages.
• The lower ribs may be damaged if they are used.
- Release the connector and disconnect all the connectors at the same time from the ignition coils.
- Remove all of the ignition coils from the spark plug shaft using the ignition coil puller (T40039).
Installing
• The ignition coils with power output stages must be greased with poly lubricant (G 052 141 A2) to install new spark plugs. This prevents the sealing hose on the ignition coil from sticking on the spark plug. The lubricant must spread onto the spark pug when installing the ignition coil.
• New ignition coils with power output stages are already greased when delivered.
- Apply a thin coating of poly lubricant (G 052 141 A2) around the ignition sealing hose - arrow -. The lubricant area must be 1 to 2 mm thick.
- Install the ignition coils loosely into the spark plug shaft.
- Align the ignition coils to the connectors - arrows - and connect all of the connectors to the ignition coils.
- Press the ignition coils evenly onto the spark plugs by hand.
