Removal and Replacement
Exhaust System Overview
• The coupling element in the exhaust pipe with catalytic converter must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise it may be damaged.
• Gaskets and self-locking nuts must be replaced.
• After exhaust system repairs, make sure the exhaust system is not under stress and is far enough from the body. If necessary, loosen the clamping sleeve and align the muffler and exhaust pipe so that there is adequate distance to the body and that the weight is evenly distributed among the suspended mounts.
• The exhaust manifold and turbocharger are one component removing and installing. Refer to => [ Turbocharger ] Turbocharger.
1 Nut
• 40 Nm
• Always replace
• Coat the stud bolts on the exhaust manifold with hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3).
2 Heated Oxygen Sensor (G39)
• 55 Nm
• Bank 1, sensor 1
• Only use hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) to grease the threads, do not let the paste get onto the slits of the oxygen sensor body.
3 Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converter
Danger of causing damage to the coupling element.
• Do not bend the coupling element more than 10°.
• Do not stretch the coupling element.
• Do not damage the wire mesh on the coupling element.
• Protect the catalytic converter from shocks and impact stress.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converters ] Service and Repair.
• Align the exhaust system free of tension. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures.
4 Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter (G130)
• 55 Nm
• Bank 1, sensor 2
• Only use hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) to grease the threads, do not let the paste get onto the slits of the oxygen sensor body.
5 Clamping Sleeve
• Before tightening, ensure the exhaust system is free of tension. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures.
• Installed position, refer to => [ Clamping Sleeve Position ].
6 Nut
• 23 Nm
• Tighten the nuts evenly.
7 Retaining Loop
• Replace if damaged.

Clamping Sleeve Position
- Install the clamping sleeve in the angled position shown.
• alpha = approximately 20°
• The threaded connections are toward the right.
• The nuts are toward the top.
