Oil Pump: Service and Repair
Oil Pump with Balance Shaft Drive
=> [ Chain Tensioner, Pre-tensioning ].
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Connecting Pin (T10027)
• Silicone Sealant (D 176 404 A2)
Removing
- Remove the oil pan. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the protective plate. If necessary, release the retaining tabs - arrows - through the openings with a small screwdriver.
- Position the crankshaft in the Top Dead Center (TDC) position for cylinder 1.
• Make sure there is a mark on the balance shaft chain sprocket aligned with the securing hole - arrow -. Mark the position with a waterproof marker if the mark is missing. The mark will be needed later when installing.
- Loosen the bolt for the oil pump chain sprocket. Counter hold the vibration damper center bolt.
The chain sprocket driving differential shafts must not be loosened!
- Release the tension on the chain rail using a screwdriver - arrow - and secure it using a 3 mm hex wrench - 1 -.
- Remove the chain sprocket from the oil pump and disengage the chain from the balance shaft drive.
- Remove the bolts - 1 and 2 - to remove the windage tray.
- Loosen the bolts for the balance shaft drive working from the outside toward the inside and remove it. Refer to => [ Oil Pump and Balance Shaft Drive ] Service and Repair.
Installing and Adjusting
• The chain tensioner is pre-tensioned. Refer to => [ Chain Tensioner, Pre-tensioning ].
- Place the frame as shown onto the alignment sleeves - arrows - for the balance shaft drive.
- Install the oil pump with the balance shaft drive and the intermediate plate. Tighten the new bolts in a diagonal sequence working from the inside to the outside to 15 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.
• Note the different length of the bolts. Refer to => [ Bolt Allocation for the Balance Shaft Drive ].
- Position the crankshaft in the TDC position for cylinder 1.
- The mark on the balance shaft chain sprocket - arrow - is aligned with the securing hole.
- Secure the chain sprocket in this position using the connecting pin (T10027). Place the chain onto the chain sprocket for the balance shaft.
- Install the chain sprocket for the oil pump and tighten the bolt by hand.
• The oil pump chain sprocket fits only in one position. To install, only the oil pump must be rotated.
- Remove the connecting pin (T10027) and the 3 mm hex wrench - 1 -. Secure the chain sprocket for the oil pump (tightening specification: 20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn). Counter hold the central bolt for the vibration damper.
- Install the oil pan. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.
