Steering Column Switch, Through 05.10







Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring (F138)

Removal


Follow the specified sequence when removing and installing steering column switch components. Refer to => [ Steering Column Switch Components, Removal and Installation Sequence ] Steering Column Switch Components, Removal and Installation Sequence.

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

Remove the following components in order:


Risk of airbag deployment!

The airbag could deploy if the unit is mishandled.

Follow all safety precautions when working with airbags.

- Remove the steering wheel.

- Remove the steering column trim.

- Remove Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527). Refer to => [ Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527) ] Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527).

When removing, the spiral spring must not be twisted out of the center position and wheels must be in the straight ahead position.

- Lift straps - arrows - slightly at spiral spring - 1 - and remove spiral spring toward rear from steering column and steering column switches.






Installation

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:


The turn signal lever could break when installing the spiral spring.

The turn signal lever must be in the 0 position when installing the spiral spring so that it does not fall out.

When installing spiral spring, spiral spring must be in center position and wheels must be in the straight ahead position.

The following depicts center position of spiral spring, which is dependent on the manufacturer:
