Shifter M/T: Adjustments
Shift Mechanism, Adjusting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Connecting Pin (T10027 A)
• The following is important to make sure the shift adjustment is correct:
• The shift mechanism operating and transfer elements must work properly.
• The shift mechanism must move freely.
• The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must also be in proper condition.
• Transmission is in neutral.
- Remove the air filter housing if the locking pin - A - and the locking mechanisms for the shift and selector cables are not accessible. Refer to one of the following:
Gas engines
- Pull the locking mechanisms on the cable retainers for the shift and selector cables all the way forward in the - direction of arrow 1 - and then lock it to the left in the - direction of arrow 2 -.
Hold the gear shift unit shaft secure as follows:
- Push the gear shift shaft in the - direction of arrow 1 -.
- While pressing down the shaft, rotate the locking pin - A - upward in the - direction of arrow 3 - and simultaneously press it in, in the - direction of arrow 2 - until it engages in the shaft.
- Remove the shift knob, boot and noise insulation, if present. Refer to the following:

Hold the shift lever secure as follows:
- Move the shift lever into neutral.
- Install the locking pin (T10027 A) through hole - A - and into hole - B -.
- Turn the locking mechanisms on the shift and selector cable retainers all the way to the right in the - direction of arrow 1 -.
The spring will push the locking mechanisms into the starting position in the - direction of arrow 2 -.
- Turn the locking pin - A - back into the starting position - arrow 2 -.
The locking pin - A - must get pushed out of the transmission in the - direction of arrow 1 -.
• The locking pin - A - must be pushed all the way out of the transmission, in the - direction of arrow 1 - and point downward, in the - direction of arrow 2 -.
- Pull the locking pin (T10027 A) out of the holes - A and B -.
- Install the shift knob, boot and noise insulation, if equipped. Refer to the following:

- Make sure the shift lever moves easily.
- If removed, install the air filter housing. Refer to one of the following:
Gas engines
Diesel engines
Function
• The shift lever must rest in the 3rd/4th selector lever gate when the transmission is in neutral.
- Press the clutch pedal.
- Move the shift lever several times through all the gears. Pay particular attention to the operation of the reverse gear lock.
- Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection, adjust the selector mechanism again. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
