Left Flange Shaft and Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Slide Hammer-Complete Set (VW 771)
• Additional Part for VW 771 (VW 771/37)
• Thrust Piece (3305)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)
• Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
- Remove the left wheel.
- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:
GTI (2006-2009), Golf/GTI (from 2010) and Passat

- Remove the lower part of the left front wheel housing liner..
- Remove left drive axle.
- Place a drip tray under the transmission.
- Remove the flange shaft bolt, by installing two bolts into the flange and counter holding the flange shaft with a pry bar.
- Remove the flange shaft and the pressure spring.
- Remove the flange shaft seal.
Installing
- Install the seal until seated and without tilting it using the thrust piece (3305).
- Fill the space between the sealing and dusts lip half way with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1).
- Install the flange shaft.
- Secure the flange shaft with the bolt and tighten it to specification, see - item 12 - in the => [ Differential ] Service and Repair.
- Install the left drive axle.
- Install the lower section of the left front wheel housing liner..
- Install the wheel.
- Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking ] Service and Repair.
- Install the noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:
GTI (2006-2009), Golf/GTI (from 2010) and Passat
