Left Flange Shaft and Seal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Slide Hammer-Complete Set (VW 771)

• Additional Part for VW 771 (VW 771/37)

• Thrust Piece (3305)

• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Removing

• The transmission is installed.

- Remove the wheel.

- If installed, remove the center and left part of the insulation below the engine and transmission.

- Remove the left drive axle.

- Place a drip tray under the transmission.

- Remove the bolts for the flange shaft, by screwing two bolts into the flange and counter-holding the flange shaft using a pry bar.






- Remove the flange shaft and the pressure spring.

- Remove the flange seal using the slide hammer-complete set VW 771 and the additional part for VW 771 (VW 771/37).






Installing

- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips half way with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1).

- Install the seal until seated using the thrust piece (3305).






- Install the flange shaft.

- Secure the flange shaft with the countersunk bolt and tighten it to 30 Nm.

- Install the ball joint to the control arm to the old marks using new bolts.

- Install he left drive axle to the flange shaft.

- Install the left front wheel housing liner..

- Install the left wheel.

- Check the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG(R)) oil level and fill as necessary. Refer to => [ Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling.

- Install the noise insulation.
