Clutch End Cover, Installing
There are two types of covers.
• => [ Covers that are Delivered without Bushings ]
• => [ Covers that are Delivered with Bushings ]
Covers that are Delivered without Bushings
Always replace the cover and the lock ring. Never use a hammer to install the cover and never lubricate the center seal or touch it.
Do not touch the hole in the center of a new cover. The cover must also not be lubricated or come into contact with any other substances in that area. Leaks will develop.
- Only handle the cover as shown in this illustration!
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Guide Sleeve (T10302)
• Clean the guide sleeve (T10302) before using, and do not use a scratched sleeve.
The new cover must not have any oil in or around the center seal and it must be dry.
- If necessary, clean the end of the clutch shaft.
Do not apply adhesive to the inside of the cover.
- Carefully remove the adhesive if it has already been applied!
Only coat the outer edge of the seal with DSG(R) oil.
- Place the sleeve on a level surface.
The center seal in the new cover must now be "pre-formed".
- Install the cover horizontally and evenly over the whole sleeve. This bring the sealing lip into its installed position.
- Remove the sleeve upward out of the cover and place it on the end of the clutch shaft.
- Guide the cover horizontally over the sleeve and press it evenly onto its seat.
Use caution when handling. If the cover is hit in any way, leakage will definitely occur.
The cover can be pried out of its seat using a screwdriver to install the new lock ring.
- Install the new lock ring.
Covers that are Delivered with Bushings
Always replace the cover and the lock ring. Never use a hammer to install the cover and never lubricate the center seal or touch it.
Do not touch the hole in the center in a new cover. The cover must not be touched inside the hole, lubricated or come into contact with any other substances in that area. Leaks will develop.
Do not remove the bushing!
The new cover must not have any oil in or around the center seal and it must be dry.
- If necessary, clean the end of the clutch shaft.
Do not apply adhesive to the inside of the cover.
- Carefully remove the adhesive if it has already been applied!
Only coat the outer edge of the seal with DSG(R) oil.
- Insert the clutch end cover and socket.
Use caution when handling. If the cover is hit in any way, leakage will definitely occur.
The cover can be pried out of its seat using a screwdriver to install the new lock clip.
- Install the new lock ring.
- Only remove the bushing once the lock ring is installed.
- Install the transmission. Refer to => [ Transmission, Installing ] Transmission, Installing.
- Fill the transmission with oil. Refer to => [ DSG(R) Oil, Draining and Filling ] DSG(R) Oil, Draining and Filling.
- After installing the transmission, perform the basic setting using the Guided Functions. Refer to the vehicle diagnostic tester.
