April 24, 2012

2028300 Supersedes T.B. V911141 dated December 19, 2011 to update software level table.

Vehicle Information

Condition

Bluetooth(R), UHV NAR (9W7) Voice Recognition, Bluetooth(R) Buttons Inoperative - No DTCs Stored

Various functions of Bluetooth(B) system inoperative. No DTCs stored.

Tip:
This technical bulletin does not apply to vehicles equipped with RNS 315 radios which have the internal Bluetooth(R) module. This includes part numbers 1K0035274B and higher indexes.

Technical Background

Module not coded or coded incorrectly.

Note:
For UHV module P/N 5K0035730 use SVM long coding to code the Bluetooth(R) module, and then switch byte 2 to "03"

For UHV module P/N 7P6035730C/F & 5K0035730E SVM coding is unavailable. Use the steps below to code the module correctly.

Production Solution

Not applicable.

Service

Verifying the Coding in External UHV Module:

Overhead Bluetooth(R) Buttons Inoperative:

^ Byte 7 of the external Bluetooth(R) module needs to be "00".

Tip:
If coded to "10" or another value, the 3 button array is not recognized by the Bluetooth(R) module.

Voice Recognition Inoperative:

Except RNS 510

^ Byte 1 of the external Bluetooth(R) module needs to be "10".

^ Byte 2 of the external Bluetooth(R) module needs to be set to "04" if UHV software level is 2902 or higher.

^ Byte 2 of the external Bluetooth(R) module needs to be set to "00" if UHV software level is lower than 2902.

RNS 510

^ With full voice recognition enabled (ability to change station, tracks etc.) and UHV software 2902 or higher, Byte 1 of the external Bluetooth(R) module needs to be "11".

^ With only Bluetooth voice recognition enabled or UHV software lower than 2902, byte 1 of the external Bluetooth(R) module needs to be "10".

^ Byte 2 of the external Bluetooth(R) module needs to be set to "04" if UHV software is 2902 or higher.

^ Byte 2 of the external Bluetooth(R) module needs to be set to "00" if UHV software is lower than 2902.

Note:
See coding chart below for reference.

Steering Wheel Bluetooth(B) Button Inoperative:

^ Verify non Bluetooth(R) related steering wheel controls are working correctly. If not, diagnose using Guided fault finding.

^ If only Bluetooth(R) related controls are inoperative, use SVM to recode the steering column control module (J527) online (except Beetle and A6 Jetta Sedan with PR code AW0).

^ Beetle and A6 Jetta Sedan with PR code AW0 are not equipped with J527 it will be necessary to perform SVM coding on J519 (address word 09).

RNS 510 - Voice Recognition Inoperative:

Due to multiple software variations, an incorrect coding can cause voice recognition to be inoperative, as the RNS 510 with full voice recognition operates differently than other radios.

^ Byte 7 of the RNS 510 with full recognition needs to be coded.

^ Byte 1 and Byte 2 of the telephone module need to be coded.
