Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor G179

The driver side airbag crash sensor (G179) may be installed in several different locations:

• On the outside of the front door subframe

• On the inside of the front door subframe

For Installed on Inside of Subframe

Installed on Outside of Subframe

Removing

Always read the General Safety Precautions before working on airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnical components). Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions.

- Disconnect the battery.

Passat from MY 2006 and Passat Wagon from MY 2006

- Remove driver side front door trim. Refer to => [ Driver Side Front Door Trim ] Driver Side Front Door Trim

Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY 2010

- Remove driver side front door trim.

All vehicles

- Remove front door subframe.

- Drill out pop rivet - 1 -.

- Drill out pop rivet - 2 -.

- Press connector lock and remove connector - 4 - from Driver's Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G179) - 3 -.






Installing

- Connect connector - 4 - to Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G179) - 3 -.

- Secure Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G179) with pop rivet - 2 - to subframe using Pop rivet pliers (VAS 5072).

- Secure Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G179) with pop rivet - 1 - to subframe as described.






- Install in reverse order of removal.

- Switch on ignition.

Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

- Connect the battery.

Installed on Inside of Subframe

Removing

- Disconnect the battery.

Passat from MY 2006 and Passat Wagon from MY 2006

- Remove driver side front door trim => [ Driver Side Front Door Trim ] Driver Side Front Door Trim

Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY 2010

- Remove driver side front door trim.

All vehicles

- Disconnect the connector - 2 - from driver thorax airbag crash sensor (G179) - 1 - - arrow -.

- Drill out pop rivet - 3 -.

- Drill out pop rivet - 4 -.

- Remove the bass and the front midrange speaker to remove the rivet deposits.

- Remove the rivet deposits from the door through the speaker opening.






Installing

- Secure Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G179) with pop rivet - 4 - to subframe using Pop rivet pliers (VAS 5072).

- Secure Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G179) with pop rivet - 3 - to subframe as described.

- Connect connector - 2 - to Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G179) - 1 -.






- Install in reverse order of removal.

- Switch on ignition.

Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

- Connect the battery.
