Fluid Filter - ASMT: Service and Repair

Fluid Filter Changing and Fluid Level, Adjusting

First, the fluid temperature is read out. If it is higher than 50°C (122°F), allow the transmission to cool. With the engine off, remove the overflow tube and drain the fluid. Then install the overflow tube again and overfill the transmission. Start the engine and drain any excess fluid until the oil level has reached the overflow tube. If the fluid filter is being replaced, then it often necessary to create an access to the filter. The air filter housing must be removed.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051-
Adapter for oil filling -VAS 6262 A-
Used oil collection and extraction device -VAG 1782- or Drip tray -VAG 1306-
Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) -VAG 1331-

The fluid is obtainable as a replacement part. The replacement part number is found in the electronic parts catalog.

Requirements
Engine off
Vehicle in horizontal position, all hoist supports at same height.
Noise insulation is removed if necessary
Selector level in the P position
-VAS 5051- is connected
To begin working, the fluid temperature should not be higher than 50°C (122°F).

Up to transmission production date September 20, 2004, transmissions with two plugs were installed.
It is important to not switch the plugs. Later, during an oil change, only install -A- near the pendulum support
Transmissions installed after September 20, 2004, have only one plug -A-.

Likewise later, before installing the plug, replace the seal -arrow-.
Follow the sequence of each of the following instructions until the fluid change is completed.

Changing the fluid and filter
- Connect the -VAS 5051- and identify vehicle in GUided Fault Finding.
- Direct Shift Gearbox Transmission
- Check Oil Level
Let the transmission cool down if the oil temperature is higher than 50°C (122°F).
- Engine off - do not start!

Only start the engine when requested to do so. Not right now.
- Place the -VAG 1306- underneath the transmission.

- Loosen the filter housing -arrow- 7 turns.
- Wait 10 seconds.

This allows the fluid to flow back into the transmission from the filter housing.
- Remove the fluid filter housing.

- After you have installed the filter with the shoulder downward, tighten the housing to 20 Nm.

Wipe clean any oil.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the noise insulation panel.
- Place the -VAG 1782- or the -VAG 1306- under the transmission.

- Remove the inspection plug near the pendulum support -arrow-.

A black plastic overflow tube is located in this hole (with 8 mm hex head, tightening specification: 3 Nm).
- Remove this overflow tube.

About 5 liters of fluid will drain.
- Reinstall the overflow tube, 3 Nm.

- Install adapter -A- from the -VAS 6262A- hand tight into the inspection plug hole.

Shake the bottles before opening.
- Fill 5.5 liter DSG fluid.
To change bottles, the shut off valve can be closed or the -VAS6262 A- can be held higher than the transmission.

- Move through the -VAS 5051- until the DSG fluid temperature is displayed.
- Now start the engine.
- Press the brake and shift into each selector lever position for approximately 3 seconds. Place the lever in the P position again.

Do not turn off the engine!

With an oil temperature of 35 to 45°C (95 to 113°F):
- With the engine running, disconnect the quick acting coupling of the -VAS 6262A-.
- Let the excess fluid drain.
- As soon as the fluid has run out (it begins to drip), remove the -VAS 6262A- and install the plug with new seal.

Tightening Specification: 45 Nm

- Turn off the engine.

Drained fluid must not be used again.
Dispose of the fluid in an appropriate manner.
This completes the fluid and filter change.
Oil level in transmission is correctly adjusted.

- Install the noise insulation panel
