Compass Magnetic Field Sensor G197

The compass system includes:

The display in the instrument cluster - arrow -

The compass magnetic field sensor is located in the rear lid.






The Radio/RNS (RX1) does not have the compass magnetic field sensor.

The current direction, in which the vehicle is pointing, appears in the compass display. Eight different directions and up to two letters (N = north, NW = northwest) can be displayed.

Before troubleshooting or servicing, the technicians must be familiar with the function and operation of the compass system.

Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester for Servicing or Troubleshooting.

Check all vehicle equipment (clock, Convenience System, etc.) after connecting the battery.

Using an antenna that is attached to the rear lid by magnets or any remaining magnetization could cause the compass module to not work correctly. For complaints of inaccurate or faulty direction displays on the compass module, ask the customer whether a magnetically adhered antenna is being used before starting repair work.

Removing

The compass magnetic field sensor is inside the rear lid.

- Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the key.

- Remove the rear lid trim panel..






- Remove the compass magnetic field sensor - 1 - on the retainers - 3 - and - 4 -.

- Disconnect the connector - 2 -.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

- Calibrate the compass. Refer to the Owner's Manual.
