Subframe Bonded Rubber Bushing

• Tensioning Strap (T10038)

Front Bonded Rubber Bushing, Removing
- Remove the rear wheels.
- Remove the coil springs. Refer to => [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.
- Remove the rear muffler.
- Disconnect the electric connections between the rear subframe and the body.
- Remove the stabilizer bar. Refer to => [ Stabilizer Bar ] Stabilizer Bar.
- Remove the tie rods. Refer to => [ Tie Rod ] Tie Rod.
- Remove the clip - 1 -.
• Do not disconnect the brake line.
- Now, secure the vehicle on both sides, to the lifting arms of the hoist using the tensioning straps (T10038).
If the vehicle is not secured, it could slide off of hoist.
- Place the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A) with the universal transmission support (V.A.G 1359/2) below the subframe and secure it with the strap.
- Loosen the bolts - 1 and 2 - on both sides.
• Only the left side of the vehicle is shown in the illustration.
To locate subframe, the locating pins (T10096) must be installed one after the other on both sides of the vehicle at positions - 1 and 2 -.
- Locate the position of the subframe using the locating pins (T10096).
• The locating pins (T10096) may only be tightened to a maximum of 20 Nm, otherwise the threads of the locating pins will be damaged.
- Replace the subframe bolts one after the other on both sides using the locating pins (T10096) and tighten them to 20 Nm.
The position of the subframe is now secured.
- Lower the subframe 10 cm using the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A).
- Mark the installed position of the bonded rubber bushing to the subframe, using for example, a felt-tip pen.
- Install the special tools as shown in the illustration.

- Pretension the special tools.
- Pull out the bonded rubber bushing by operating the pump.
• The bushing outer race is sheared off when the bonded rubber bushing is removed. There is a loud crack when this happens.
- After removing the rubber bonded bushing, it must then be removed from the tube (T10356/6)
- Mount the tube (T10356/6) on the provided surfaces in a vice.
- Using a screwdriver, pry between the tube (T10356/6) and the rubber bonded bushing - arrow - and, if necessary, remove the bushing by tapping lightly on the screwdriver with a hammer.
Front Bonded Rubber Bushing, Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following when doing so:

The front rubber bonded bushing had two notches - arrows - on top and has a slightly different installed height. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
The bonded rubber bushing must be installed in the correct direction, note the mark on the subframe.
- Install the bonded rubber bushing - 1 - into the subframe, so that the tab and the plate - arrows - face perpendicular to the direction of travel.
- Mount the pressure piece (T10263/3) - 2 - so that the flat side faces perpendicular to the direction of travel.
- Insert the special tools with the bonded rubber bushing into the subframe as illustrated.

- Pretension the special tools with the bonded rubber bushing.
- Carefully insert the bonded rubber bushing by operating the pump until the collar lies on the subframe without a gap.
- Install the tie rods. Refer to => [ Tie Rod ] Tie Rod.
- Install the stabilizer bar. Refer to => [ Stabilizer Bar ] Stabilizer Bar.
- Connect the electrical connections between the rear subframe and the body.
- Install the rear muffler.
- Install the coil springs. Refer to => [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.
- Install the rear wheels.
Rear Bonded Rubber Bushing, Removing
- Remove the rear wheels.
- Remove the coil springs. Refer to => [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.
- Remove the rear muffler.
- Remove the clip - 1 -.
• Do not disconnect the brake line.
- Now, secure the vehicle on both sides, to the lifting arms of the hoist using the tensioning strap (T10038).
If the vehicle is not secured, it could slide off of hoist.
- Place the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A) with the universal transmission support (V.A.G 1359/2) below the subframe and secure it with the strap.
- Loosen the bolts - 1 and 2 - on both sides.
• Only the left side of the vehicle is shown in the illustration.
