Front Parking Aid Sensor in Bumper Cover
Front Parking Aid Sensor in Bumper Cover
Removing
- Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and move the ignition key or start button into the 0 position (preliminary engaged position).
• The bumper cover does not need to be removed to remove and install the left front parking aid sensor (G255) or right front parking aid sensor (G252) in the front bumper cover.
• The following description applies to removing and installing the left front sensor. The same procedure is used to remove and install the right front sensor.
- Remove the bolt - 1 - and unclip cover - 2 - at the retainers - arrows - from the bumper cover.
• Always follow the sequence for removing the sensor.
• Otherwise, the sensor may be damaged. Hairline cracks which lead to sensor failure can develop if too much force is used on the sensor.
• First remove the sensor from the bracket and then disconnect the sensor connectors.
- Reach through the opening behind the bumper cover and press the locking mechanisms - arrow - on the sensor bracket - 1 - outward.
- Pull the sensor - 2 - with the wires still connected back out of the sensor bracket.
• When removing the sensor, make sure that the coupling ring (black silicone ring) remains on the sensor head and not in the holder or that it gets lost.
• Do not bend the coupling ring.
- Unlock and disconnect the connector - 2 - and then remove the sensor - 1 -.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
• Do not bend the coupling ring.
• An incorrect or damaged coupling ring can lead to malfunctions.
• Replace damaged coupling rings and ensure the correct ring is installed.
• Since the lengths of the sensor heads of the front parking aid and the parallel parking assistance sensors are different, the high coupling rings installed are also different.
- Make sure the correct coupling ring is installed on the sensor head.
- If necessary, replace the sensor coupling ring - 1 -.
• When installing the sensor, make sure the coupling ring is correctly mounted on the sensor head and that it does not fall off or become jammed when inserting into the sensor holder.
• Both retaining clips on the sensor holder must engage audibly when installing sensor.
- Make sure the sensor is seated correctly in the bracket after installing. Dimension - a - for the circular gap between the sensor head and bumper cover must be even all around on the outer side of the bumper cover.
