Crankshaft Axial Play, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Dial Gauge Holder (VW 387)

• Dial Gauge 0-10 mm (VAS 6079)

Test Sequence






- Install the dial indicator 0-10 mm (VAS 6079) together with the dial gauge holder (VW 387) to the cylinder block and set the indicator against the crankshaft counterweight.

- Press the crankshaft by hand, against the indicator and set the dial gauge 0-10 mm (VAS 6079) to "0".

- Press the crankshaft off the gauge and read the value.

Axial clearance:

• New: 0.07 to 0.21 mm

• Wear limit: 0.30 mm
