ABS Mark 70 (ABS/ASR) Assembly Overview






1 Brake Line

• 14 Nm

• Master brake cylinder/primary piston circuit for the ABS hydraulic unit (N55).

• Identification: Pipe bolt with thread M12 x 1

2 Brake Line

• 14 Nm

• Master brake cylinder/secondary piston circuit for the ABS hydraulic unit (N55).

• Identification: Pipe bolt with thread M12 x 1

3 Brake Booster with Master Brake Cylinder

• On gasoline engines, the required vacuum is supplied either by the intake manifold or by a vacuum pump.

• Functional check:

- Forcefully press brake pedal several times with engine switched off. This dissipates any vacuum present in the unit.

- Depress and hold brake pedal with average foot pressure and start engine. If brake booster is working properly, pedal will be felt to give noticeably under foot (booster assistance becomes effective).

• If malfunctioning: replace as complete unit.

• Brake booster, removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Booster ] Brake Booster for 2.5L Engine or => [ Brake Booster ] Brake Booster for 2.0L TFSI Engine.

• Brake master cylinder, removing and installing, refer to => [ Master Brake Cylinder ] Master Brake Cylinder for 2.5L Engine or => [ Master Brake Cylinder ] Master Brake Cylinder for 2.0L TFSI Engine.

4 Brake Line

• 14 Nm

• To left rear brake caliper/brake cylinder.

• Identification: Pipe bolt with thread M12 x 1.

5 Brake Line

• 14 Nm

• To the right rear brake caliper/brake cylinder.

• Identification: Pipe bolt with thread M10 x 1.

6 Rubber Insulation

• Do not press the rubber bushings out of the bracket when installing the mount.

7 Bracket

• Is attached to the body

8 Nut

• 8 Nm

• Quantity: 2

9 Bolt

• 8 Nm

• Quantity: 2

10 Bracket

11 ABS Hydraulic Unit (N55)

• Removing and installing, (vehicles with 4 cylinder gasoline engine), refer to => [ ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Unit ] ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Unit.

• Removing and installing, (vehicles with a 5-cylinder gasoline engine), refer to => [ ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Unit ] ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Unit.

12 Bolt

• 5.5 Nm

• Quantity: 3

• Always replace if removed.

13 ABS Control Module (w/EDL) (J104)

• Removing and installing, (vehicles with 4 cylinder gasoline engine), refer to => [ ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Unit ] ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Unit.

• Removing and installing, (vehicles with a 5-cylinder gasoline engine), refer to => [ ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Unit ] ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Unit.

• Disconnect from the ABS hydraulic unit. Refer to => [ ABS Control Module, Separating from ABS Hydraulic Unit ] ABS Control Module, Separating from ABS Hydraulic Unit.

14 Brake Line

• 14 Nm

• ABS hydraulic unit for the master brake cylinder/primary piston circuit.

• Identification: Pipe bolt with thread M12 x 1

15 Brake Line

• 14 Nm

• To left front brake caliper.

• Identification: Pipe bolt with thread M10 x 1

16 Brake Line

• 14 Nm

• To right front brake caliper.

• Identification: Pipe bolt with thread M12 x 1

17 Brake Line

• 14 Nm

• ABS hydraulic unit (N55) for the master brake cylinder/secondary piston circuit.

• Identification: Pipe bolt with thread M12 x 1
