Shift Cable: Adjustments






Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

The selector lever cable must always be adjusted if:

The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.

The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.

Parts of the engine/transmission mount were removed and installed.

The selector lever cable and the selector mechanism were removed and installed.

The engine/transmission positions change, for example, were installed free of tension.

Adjusting

- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.

Move the lever on the transmission into the "P" position.






The lever on the transmission must be pushed all the way to the rear.

- Pull the lever forward.

- Push the lever - arrow - to the rear.






"P" is in the second detent.

Make sure the transmission is in "P" (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn the front wheels.

The transmission is also in "P" if the vehicle does not move with wheels spinning freely.

- Install the cable with a loose adjustment bolt - arrow - and the new lock washers - A and B -, if they were removed earlier.






- Lightly tap the handle button forward and backward and make sure to keep handle in the "P" position.

This places the cable core in its optimal position.

- Tighten the adjustment bolt - arrow - to 13 Nm.

This ends the adjustment.
