Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor G452, Basis
Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor G452, Basis
Observe the safety precautions when working on the seat occupied recognition system, refer to => [ Passive Occupant Detection System Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.
• Both the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) and the front seat cushion must be replaced together.
• The passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) may not be replaced separately.
• The removal of the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) follows the example for the front seat version with extra equipment "Basis".
• The installation of the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) follows the front seat version with extra equipment "Basis".
• The installation of the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) follows the front seat version with extra equipment "Sport", refer to => [ Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor G452, Sport ] Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor G452, Sport.
Removing
- Attach the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) to the engine/transmission holder (VAS 6095).
- Remove the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seat.
- Secure the seat on the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Remove the trim on the tunnel side, refer to => [ Tunnel Side Trim ] Tunnel Side Trim.
- Remove the left trim on the seat, refer to => [ Door Sill Side Trim ] Door Sill Side Trim:
- Remove the backrest - 3 - from the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.
- Remove cover from upholstery of front seat cushion (front seat cushion is not removed). Refer to => [ Front Seat Cushion, Cover and Upholstery ] Front Seat Cushion, Cover and Upholstery.
- if equipped, disconnect the connector for the front seat cushion heating element.
- Disconnect the connector - 5 - for the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 2 - from the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) - 4 -, refer to Front Seat Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor G452 Assembly Overview, Sport.
- Loosen the wiring harness - 6 - for the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) from the lower seat frame.
- Remove the seat cushion - 1 - and passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 2 - from the lower seat frame.
The passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 2 - is permanently glued to the seat cushion - 1 -. It is not possible to remove and install separately, sensor mat must be replaced with upholstery.
If there is a seat heating element, then replace this as well. Removing and installing it separately is not permitted.
To prevent any removed components from being installed again by mistake, the components should be separated from each other and disposed.
The following work applies to these components.
- Remove the wiring harness - 1 - for the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 2 - from the channel - arrow A -.
- Thread the connector - 3 - through the seat cushion - arrow B -.
- Loosen the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 1 - from the seat cushion - 2 - starting from direction of - arrow A - to direction of - arrow B -.
- Remove the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 1 - from the seat cushion - 2 -.
Installation
• Route the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) must be positioned without wrinkles.
• After replacing the passenger occupant detection system, passenger classification system basic setting must be performed with the Vehicle diagnostic tester , in the "Guided Fault Finding", refer to => [ Components, Adapting ] Components, Adapting.
• On vehicles with seat heating, make sure the heating element is always installed under the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452). The sensor mat will not function correctly otherwise.
The basic setting must be performed with the seat empty.
- Guide the connector- 3 - for the sensor mat - 2 - through the opening in the seat cushion - arrow B - and then attach the wiring harness - 1 - in the channel - arrow A -.
• Make sure that the entire wiring harness - 1 - is guided through the seat cushion - arrow B -. After the installation there can be no wires inside the channel - arrow A -.
- Place the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 1 - on the seat cushion - 2 -.
- Align the sensor mat - 1 - on the seat cushion - 2 - so that the positioning aids - arrow - are on top of each other.
- Remove the protective film for the left positioning tape - 2 - and gently attach the sensor mat - 3 - to the cushion - 1 - without kinking it.
- Remove the protective film for the right positioning tape - 4 - and gently attach the sensor mat - 3 - to the cushion - 1 - without kinking it.
- Remove the protective film for the front positioning tape - 3 - and gently attach the sensor mat - 2 - to the cushion - 1 - without kinking it.
- Install the sensor mat wiring harness - 4 - on the seat frame - 3 - and secure it.
- Connect the connector - 1 - on the wiring harness - 4 - to the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) - 2 -.
Further assembling is in reverse order of removal.
Ensure no one is in the vehicle when the battery is connected.
- Connect the battery.
