Exhaust System, Aligning Free of Tension

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Conditions

Align the exhaust system when cold.

Procedure

- Loosen the front clamping sleeve - 1 - nuts - 3 and 4 -.






- Align the front clamping sleeve - 1 - to the mark - A - on the front exhaust pipe - 2 - (the - arrow - faces in the direction of travel).

- a - = 5 mm

The connections must be at the right and must not project beyond the lower edge of the clamping sleeve - arrow -.






- Hand tighten the front nut - 3 - on clamping sleeve.






- Push the exhaust system far enough forward so that the retaining loop at the rear muffler is pre-tensioned to dimension - a - = 15 to 17 mm.






- In this position, evenly tighten the nuts - 3 and 4 - on the clamping sleeves.






Tightening specification: 23 Nm

Tail Pipe, Aligning

- Align the rear muffler so the distance - a - between the bumper opening and the right and left tailpipes is equal.






Distance - b - from the bumper opening to the tailpipe must be parallel.

- Loosen the rear muffler mounts to align the tailpipes, if necessary.
