Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
Procedure
Always replace the intermediate shaft sprocket. Otherwise the backlash will not adjust itself and it could result in engine damage. The new intermediate shaft sprocket has an anti-friction coating that wears off after a short period of use, which automatically adjusts the backlash.
- Tighten the bolt in 4 passes described below:
- Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm.
- Rotate the sprocket.
• The sprocket cannot have any play. If it does, loosen the bolt and retighten it again.
- Tighten the bolt to 30 Nm.
- Tighten the bolt an additional 90° (1/4) turn.
