Auxiliary Heater Element: Service and Repair






Auxiliary Heater Heating Element (Z35)

Only installed on vehicles with Diesel engine without auxiliary heater.

The instrument panel is not pictured in order to enhance the illustration.

Removing

- Disconnect the battery.

- Remove driver side footwell cover. Refer to Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim.

- Remove the driver footwell vent. Refer to => [ Footwell Vent, Driver Side ] Footwell Vent, Driver Side.

- Remove the left footwell (in the middle console). Refer to Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim.

- If equipped, remove the knee airbag and mount.

There is a risk of injury. Disconnect the battery! Observe warning notes and safety precautions!

- Loosen the ground cable nut - 1 - from auxiliary heater heating element; 9 Nm.

- Release the flat terminal housing - 2 - from the auxiliary heater heating element - arrow -.

- Remove the flat terminal housing - 2 - and the ground cable from the auxiliary heater heating element.

- Remove the bolts - 3 -, 2 Nm and remove the heater core cover - 4 - from the heater and A/C unit.






- Bring the temperature door adjusting lever - 1 - into the displayed position by turning the temperature setting on the heat and fresh air controls.

- Remove the bolt - 2 -, 2 Nm from the auxiliary heater heating element - 3 -.






Contact with a hot heating element can cause severe burns.

Auxiliary Heater Heating Element may be hot.

Before removing Auxiliary Heater Heating Element let it cool off.

- Carefully move the flat terminal housing - 3 - to the side.

- Remove the auxiliary heater heating element - 2 - from the heater and A/C unit - 1 -.






Installing

- The auxiliary heater heating element - 2 - is installed in the reverse order of removal. When doing this, note the following:

The flat terminal housing - 3 - is properly attached to the auxiliary heater heating element - 2 -.

Tighten the ground cable nut for the auxiliary heater heating element to 9 Nm. Make sure the ground cable is positioned correctly.

After the installation perform the following function checks.






Additional installation is in reverse order of removal.
