Engine Accessory Bracket: Service and Repair
Accessory Bracket
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
Removing
- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Draining and Filling ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.
- Remove the generator.
- Disconnect the connector from the oil pressure switch or from the oil pressure switches.
- Disconnect the solenoid clutch electrical connector - 1 - from the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor.
Risk of injury from refrigerant:
• Do not open the A/C refrigerant circuit.
- Remove the A/C compressor bolts - arrows -.
Risk of damaging the refrigerant lines and hoses:
• Do not stretch, kink or bend refrigerant lines and hoses.
- Secure the compressor with the refrigerant lines attached to the longitudinal member.
- Remove the oil dipstick guide tube bolt - arrow -.
- Remove the bolts - 5 through 1 - and remove the accessory bracket from the coolant pump housing.
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:
• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Ribbed Belt Drive Overview ] Ribbed Belt Drive Overview.
• Replace the bolts that have been tightened to an additional torque angle.
• Replace the O-rings and seals.
- Coat the new O-rings - 4 - with coolant.
- Install the connection - 2 - into the coolant pump housing - 3 -.
- Press the accessory bracket - 1 - onto the connection, mount the bolts and tighten them, refer to => [ Accessory Bracket Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification ] Ribbed Belt Drive Overview.
- Install the A/C compressor.
- Install the generator.
- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.
- Fill the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Draining and Filling ] Service and Repair.
