Rear Drum Brakes Assembly Overview, with Torsion Beam Rear Suspension
• After disassembling the drum brake, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
• Use Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit (VAS 5234) to extract brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir.
• The brake cylinder (V.A.G 1869/2) should be installed before removing a brake cylinder or separating a brake hose (release some of the pressure first).
1 Axle Beam

2 Parking Brake Cable

• Adjusting, refer to => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting, with Drum Brakes ] Parking Brake, Adjusting, with Drum Brakes.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
3 Bolt
• 8 Nm
4 Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Rear Torsion Beam Suspension ABS Components Overview, with Drum Brakes ] Rear Torsion Beam Suspension ABS Components Overview, with Drum Brakes.
• Clean the inside of the hole and coat it with hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) before installing the sensor.
5 Stub Axle
• Removing and installing
6 Brake Carrier with Brake Shoes
• Minimum brake pad thickness: 2.5 mm
• Checking thickness
• Set back before removing brake drum. Refer to => [ Rear Drum Brake, Resetting ] Procedures.
• Brake carrier, removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Carrier ] Brake Carrier.
• Brake shoes, removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Shoes ] Brake Shoes.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
7 Bolt
• 30 Nm + 90° turn
• Quantity: 4
• Always replace if removed.
8 Wheel Bearing Unit
• Removing and installing
9 Bolt
• Always replace if removed.

10 Cover
• Removing and installing

11 Brake Drum
• Brake drum diameter: 230 mm
• Wear limit: 231.5 mm
• Set back before removing brake drum. Refer to => [ Rear Drum Brake, Resetting ] Procedures.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Drum ] Brake Drum.
• Clean carefully and check for wear and damage, make sure the dimensions are correct and that the brake surface is perfect.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
12 Bolt
• 8 Nm
