Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor G179

The driver thorax airbag crash sensor (G179) may be installed in two different locations:

In a dry area, on the inside, from the front door subframe.

In the wet area, the outside, from the front door subframe.

Wet Area

The general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components) must be observed.

Removing

- Disconnect the vehicle battery.

- Remove the front door trim => [ Front Door Trim ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the nut - 1 - and unclip the seal for the opening in the cable - 2 -.






- Pull the driver thorax airbag crash sensor (G179) - 1 - with wiring harness under the plastic flange - 2 - and guide it through the cable bushing- 3 -.






- Disconnect connector.

Installation

- Set the nut for the driver thorax airbag crash sensor (G179) and twist it two to three times.

- Install in reverse order of removal.

When installing, make sure that the wiring harness for the driver thorax airbag crash sensor (G179) - 1 - has been clipped into place under the plastic flange - 2 -.






- Switch the ignition on.

Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

- Connect the vehicle battery.

Dry Area

The general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components) must be observed.

Removing

- Disconnect the vehicle battery.

- Remove the front door trim. Refer to => [ Front Door Trim ] Service and Repair.

- Release the connector lock and disconnect the connector - 2 - from the driver side airbag crash sensor (G179) - 1 - - arrow -.

- Remove the screws - 3 - (1 Nm).






Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

- Switch the ignition on.

Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

- Connect the vehicle battery.
