Subframe Bonded Rubber Bushing, in the Forward Direction of Travel

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Assembly Tool (T10301)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Engine/Gearbox Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Hydraulic Press (VAS 6178) with pressure head (T10205/13)

Pneumatic/Hydraulic Foot Pump (VAS 6179)

2 bolts M14 x 1.5 x 90, for example bolts (N 104 281 01)

Removing

Vehicles with an Air Spring Shock Absorber

- Activate the vehicle lift mode and place the vehicle on the lifting platform. Refer to => [ Vehicle Lift Mode ] Description and Operation.

Continuation for All Vehicles

- Remove the noise insulation below the engine/transmission.

- Disconnect the driveshaft from the front final drive and tie up.

- If present, remove the bolts - arrows -.






- Remove the heat shield - 1 - from the steering gear - 2 -.

- Turn the steering gear to the right to the stop.

- Remove the bolt - arrow - of the universal joint - 1 -.






- Remove the universal joint - 1 - from the power steering gear - 2 -.

- Unscrew the threaded connection - 1 - for the coupling rod of the side on which the bonded rubber mount is to be replaced.






Vehicles with V6 TDI engine

In vehicles with a V6 TDI engine, a damper is installed on the right side.

- Pry the cap - 1 - off of the damper - 2 - and unscrew the securing bolt.






- Remove the damper - 2 - from the stabilizer bar clamp.

Continuation for All Vehicles

- Unscrew the bolts - arrows - for the stabilizer bar clamp - 1 - at the subframe on the side on which the bonded rubber mount is to be replaced.






- Remove the stabilizer bar clamp - 1 -.

- Remove the front bolts - 1 - for the subframe.






- Place the (V.A.G 1383 A) under the subframe.

- Lower the subframe - 1 -.






a maximum 1.57 in

- Screw in two bolts M14 x 1.5 x 90, for example bolts (N 104 281 01) to secure the engine carrier to the body on the left and right - 2 -.






Pressing Out the Bonded Rubber Bushing

- Attach the supporting ring (T10301/8) - 1 - so that the narrow side - arrow - faces the subframe.






(T10301/8) must be able to be attached easily and must not be canted.

- Mount the tools as illustrated.

5. (VAS 6178) with (T10205/13)

6. Nut (T10301/2)

7. Spindle (T10301/1)


Before pressing out, place the (V.A.G 1383 A) with the universal mount under the cylinder since the cylinder may fall down at the end of the pressing out procedure.

Hold the (VAS 6178) during the pressing-out procedure.

- Press out the bonded rubber mount.

Installation Position

One of the arrows - 1 - must point in direction of travel






Pressing in the Bonded Rubber Bushing

- Install the thrust plate (T10301/10) - 1 - with the open side to the subframe.






When pressing in the bonded rubber bushings, make sure that the (T10301/10) is positioned correctly, to prevent the subframe from being damaged.

- Mount the tools as illustrated.

6. Nut (T10301/2)

7. Spindle (T10301/1)


- Press in bonded rubber bushing until shoulder lies gap-free at subframe sleeve.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Install the driveshaft.

- Install the subframe using new bolts.

- Install the universal joint - 1 - on the steering gear and tighten the bolt - arrow - to the specified torque.






- If present, bolt the heat shield - 1 - to the steering gear - 2 - - arrows -.






Tightening Specifications
