Starter
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)
Removal
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Disconnecting and Connecting Battery In Engine Compartment ] Disconnecting and Connecting Battery In Engine Compartment.
- Remove screws - arrows -.
- Disconnect hose - 1 - after the clips - 2 - have been opened.
- Disconnect harness connector - 3 - and free up line to air filter housing.
- Pull off engine cover upward - arrows -.
- Remove the Ground (GND) wire from starter mounting bolt - arrow - (15 Nm).
- Remove upper starter mounting bolt - arrow - (M10= 40 Nm, M12= 80 Nm).
- Slide the cap off the solenoid switch in - direction of arrow -.
- Remove the positive wire - 1 - (15 Nm) and disconnect harness connector of terminal 50 - 2 -.
- Remove noise insulation.
• All hose connections for charge air system are secured by spring-type clamps or by connector couplings. The following must be observed with connector couplings:
• Release connection by pulling locking clip - arrow -.
• Disconnect hose/pipe without tools.
- Open screw-type clamp - 1 - and disconnect connector coupling - 2 -.
- Remove charge air hose from vehicle.
- Remove the nut - 1 - (15 Nm) from lower mounting bolt of starter.
- Remove wire retainer - 2 -.
- Remove lower starter mounting bolt - arrow - (M10= 40 Nm, M12= 80 Nm).
- Remove the starter downward and out from the vehicle.
Installation
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
• All hose connections for charge air system are secured by spring-type clamps or by connector couplings. The following must be observed with connector couplings:
• Connect hose/pipe without tools.
• Make sure retaining tabs lock securely - arrow -.
- Tighten all threaded connections to the specification. Refer to => [ Starter Tightening Specifications ] [1][2]Specifications.
