Stabilizer Bar






Stabilizer Bar

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Locating Pins (T10096)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Engine-/Gearbox Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Ball Joint Puller (3287 A)

Removing

- Remove the retainers - arrows - and remove the drivers foot well trim - 1 -.






- Remove the universal joint bolt - 1 - and separate the universal joint - 2 - from the steering gear.






- Remove the lower noise insulation.

- Remove the coupling rods from the stabilizer bar.

- Remove the ball joint nuts - arrows - on the left and right sides of the vehicle.






- Loosen the tie rod nuts at the wheel bearing housings on both sides, but do not remove the nuts yet.

To protect the threads, leave the nuts on the studs a few turns.

- Press off the tie rods from the wheel bearing housings using the ball joint puller (3287 A).






- Secure the subframe. Refer to => [ Subframe, Securing ] Subframe, Securing.

- Remove the stabilizer bar clamp bolts - 7 and 8 - from the subframe..






- Remove the pendulum support bolts - 13 -.






- Place the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A) under the subframe.






- Place a block of wood - 1 - between the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A) and the subframe.

- Remove the subframe bolts - 9 and 10 - , and slightly lower the subframe. Observe the electrical wires when doing this.






- Slide the stabilizer bar toward the right, as seen in the direction of travel.

- Now, lift the stabilizer bar - 1 - toward the front, over the subframe - 2 - and down, while turning the stabilizer bar slightly.






Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal.

- Install the lower noise insulation.

Coat the seal on the steering gear with lubricant, for example, soft soap, before installing the universal joint.

After attaching the universal joint to the steering gear, make sure that seal on the steering gear is positioned to mounting plate without kinks and the opening to the foot well is sealed correctly. Ingress of water and/or noises may be the result.

Make sure the sealing surfaces are clean.

- After installing, perform the basic setting on the steering angle sensor. Refer to the vehicle diagnostic tester.
