Rear Suspension






Rear Suspension Strut

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Assembly tool (3350)

Press sleeve (VW 455)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Shock absorber set (T10001)

Spring compressor (VAS 6046)

Spring holder (VAS 6046/3)

- Remove suspension strut. Refer to => [ Suspension Strut ] Rear Suspension.

Coil Spring, Removing

- Pretension coil spring far enough until upper spring plate is free.





- Remove nut from piston rod.

- Remove components of suspension strut and coil spring using (VAS 6046) and (VAS 6046/3).

First load spring far enough so that tension is relieved on upper spring retainer!

- Make sure that coil spring is seated correctly in (VAS 6046/3) - arrow -.





Coil Spring, Installing

- Place coil spring on (VAS 6046/3) at bottom.

- Make sure that coil spring is seated correctly in (VAS 6046/3) - arrow -.





- Place upper backing plate - 1 - onto coil spring and upper washer - 2 - on upper backing plate.





- Install upper spring plate so that both center lines - A and B - are parallel to each other.





- End of spring coil must rest against stop of upper washer - arrow 1 -.





- Make sure protective foil is clipped in upper spring plate - arrow 2 -.

- Tighten new hex nut to piston rod.

- Relieve tension on (VAS 6046) and remove from coil spring.

- Installing suspension strut. Refer to => [ Suspension Strut ] Rear Suspension.

Tightening Specifications
