6-Cylinder Diesel, From MY 2009






Power Steering Pump, Checking Delivery Pressure

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose clamps up to 25 mm (3094)

Power steering tester (V.A.G 1402)

Adapter (V.A.G 1402/2)

Adapter set (V.A.G 1402/6)

Adapter set (V.A.G 1402/17)

- Carefully pull off design cover from 4 retaining pins - arrows -.





- Remove the air guide hose - 1 -.





- Clamp off intake hose using (3094).





- Remove the screws - 1 - and remove the pressure line from the power steering pump.

- Mount the (V.A.G 1402) and the adapters as illustrated.

5. Adapter (V.A.G 1402/17-2) 1) with elbow (V.A.G 1402/17-3)

6. Power steering pump

7. Adapter (V.A.G 1402/17-1) with (V.A.G 1402/17-3)

1) Replace the (V.A.G 1402/17-1) seal if it is damaged or leaking. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

Position the (V.A.G 1402/17-3) on the (V.A.G 1402/17-1) so that the hose from the (V.A.G 1402/6) does not touch the pulley and/or ribbed belt.

Tighten the union nuts on the (V.A.G 1402/17-3) and the (V.A.G 1402/6) hoses hand-tight with an open-end wrench.

- Remove (3094) from intake hose.

Make sure that lever on pressure gauge stands in position - 2 -.





- Install the air guide hose - 1 -.





- Start engine and top up hydraulic fluid in reservoir if necessary.

- Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock about 10 times.

- Now check delivery pressure.

Test Prerequisites

Ribbed belt/ribbed belt tension OK

Sealing of system

Hoses/lines are not kinked or constricted

- With engine at idle speed, close stopcock, not more than 5 seconds (position - 1 -) and read pressure.





Specification for Delivery Pressure: 120 to 128 bar

If specified value is not obtained, replace power steering pump. Refer to => [ Power Steering Pump ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the pressure gauge and adapter.

- Bleed steering system. Refer to => [ Power Steering System, Bleeding ] Service and Repair.

- Check hydraulic fluid level and top off, if necessary. Refer to Maintenance Booklet, Power-assisted steering: Check oil level.

- Check the steering system for leaks. Refer to => [ Steering System, Checking for Leaks ] Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
