Power Steering Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Spanner wrench (3212)

Ring spanner insert AF 21 (T40087)

Removing


For all repair work, especially in the engine compartment due to the tight working conditions, observe the following:

Route lines of all types (for example for fuel, hydraulic, EVAP canister system, coolant and refrigerant, brake fluid, vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.

Make sure to allow sufficient clearance for all moving or hot components.

- Carefully pull off design cover from 4 retaining pins - arrows -.





- Remove the air guide hose - 1 -.





- Mark ribbed belt running direction

- Remove ribbed belt.

- Remove bolts - arrows -, counterhold ribbed belt pulley using (3212) while doing so.





- Clamp off intake hose using (3094).





- Open spring clamp and pull suction hose - 1 - off the power steering pump.

- Remove the bolts - 2 - and remove the pressure line from the power steering pump.

- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove power steering pump - 1 - from retainer.





Installing

Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:

- Fill hydraulic oil into power steering pump.

- Fill oil at pump intake connection of power steering pump.

- Turn the hub by hand until oil runs out of the pressure side.

- Install power steering pump, tighten front bolts first.

- Install ribbed belt, and then check ribbed belt alignment.





When installing the ensure it is correctly seated in ribbed belt pulley.

2 Idler pulley
3 Idler pulley
4 Belt pulley - coolant pump
5 Belt pulley - power steering pump
6 Ribbed belt pulley - A/C compressor
7 Tensioner pulley
8 Belt pulley - crankshaft

- Bleed steering system. Refer to => [ Power Steering System, Bleeding ] Service and Repair.

- Check hydraulic fluid level and top off, if necessary. Refer to Maintenance Booklet 17.1, Power-assisted steering: Check oil level.

- Check the steering system for leaks. Refer to => [ Steering System, Checking for Leaks ] Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
