Starter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• 16 mm Open End Wrench (T10388)

• Torque Wrench (VAS 5820)

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)


When disconnecting and connecting the battery, always perform the work procedure as described in the repair manual. Refer to=> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting. Not adhering to sequence will result in the deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.

Removal

- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (ND) wire. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Remove coolant-cooled generator. Refer to => [ Generator, Coolant Cooled ] Generator, Coolant Cooled.

- Remove the air-cooled generator. Refer to => [ Generator, Air Cooled ] Generator, Air Cooled.

- Remove bolt - 2 -.






• Disregard item - 1 -.

- Remove bolt - arrow -.






- Leave ATF line in installation location.

- Disconnect electrical connector - 2 -.






- Remove B+ wire - 1 -.

- Remove engine support screw - 3 -.






- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - and remove starter.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

- Tighten the fasteners to the specification shown in => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications, Starter ] [1][2]Specifications.

- Install generator. Refer to coolant cooled=> [ Generator, Coolant Cooled ] Generator, Coolant Cooled or air cooled=> [ Generator, Air Cooled ] Generator, Air Cooled.

- Connect the battery.
