Rear Coolant Pipe
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose Clip Pliers (V.A.G 1921)
Removing
- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
- Remove the turbocharger. Refer to => [ Charge Air System with Turbocharger ] Charge Air System with Turbocharger.
- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to => [ Exhaust System Components ] Exhaust System Components.
- Remove the bolts - 1 and 3 - ; then push the left coolant pipe on the back of the transmission downward.
• The installed location is shown with the engine removed.
• Ignore - 2 and 4 - and the - arrows -.
- Disconnect the electrical connector - 4 - from the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (G62).
- Remove the bolts - 1 and 2 - and remove the rear coolant pipe from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler.
- Loosen the clamp - 3 - and remove the rear coolant pipe.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Coolant Pipes Overview ] Description and Operation.
• Replace O-ring.
• The hose connections as well as the charge air pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
• Secure all hose connections using hose clamps appropriate for the model type, refer to the parts catalog.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
