Left Flange Shaft Seal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Thrust Piece (T10105)

Puller (T10055)

Removing

- Remove the left drive axle.

- Seal the drive axle opening in the transmission with a clean cloth - A -.






- Grease a drill bit - B - so that the shavings will stick.

Drill only through the metal ring - C - otherwise the transmission will get damaged.

- Drill a 2 to 4 mm hole - B - carefully into the outer steel ring of the seal.






- Screw a sheet metal screw (approximately 4 mm diameter) into the drilled hole in the seal - arrow -.






Be careful not to install the screw too deep otherwise the bearing underneath will get damaged.

- Remove the seal using the puller (T10055) and adapter (T10055/2)






- Remove the cloth and clean the area.

The metal shavings must not get into the transmission or flange shaft. Use a vacuum to remove them, if necessary.

If only the metal ring of the seal could be removed, carefully pry out the remaining seal using screwdriver.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the following:

- Lubricate the outer circumference and the sealing lip on the oil seal with transmission fluid.

Installed position:

The open side of the seal faces the transmission.

- Install the seal all the way in using the thrust piece (T10176). Be careful not to tilt it.

- Install the left drive axle.

- Check the transmission fluid level and add if necessary. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling.

- Install the noise insulation.
