Brake Booster/Brake Master Cylinder Assembly Overview

Use only new brake fluid. Observe information on brake fluid reservoir!






1 Pedal Assembly

2 Self-Locking Hex Nut

Always replace after removal

25 Nm

First tighten at the lower left and then the upper right

3 Gasket

For brake booster

4 Brake Booster

On gasoline engines, vacuum is supplied from intake manifold.

2.0L gasoline engine are also equipped with a vacuum pump. Refer to => [ Brake Booster Vacuum Pump ] Brake Booster Vacuum Pump.

Vehicles with a hydraulic brake booster are equipped with a vacuum sensor. Refer to => [ Vacuum Sensor ] Service and Repair.

Functional check:

- With engine switched off, depress brake pedal firmly several times (to exhaust the vacuum in the unit).

- Depress and hold brake pedal with average foot pressure and start engine. If brake booster is working properly, pedal will be felt to give noticeably under foot (booster assistance becomes effective).

Replace as a unit in the event of malfunction (previously, check all vacuum lines).

5 Seal

6 Brake Master Cylinder

Cannot be serviced. Replace as complete unit if malfunctioning.

7 Inner TORX(R) Bolt

8 Nm

8 Brake Lamp Switch (F)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Lamp Switch ] Service and Repair

9 Heat Shield

10 Self-Locking Hex Nut,

Always replace after removal

25 Nm

11 Brake Line

14 Nm

Brake master cylinder/secondary piston circuit to hydraulic unit

12 Brake Line

14 Nm

Brake master cylinder/primary piston circuit to hydraulic control unit

13 Sealing Plugs

Coat with brake fluid and press into brake fluid reservoir

14 Brake Fluid Reservoir

15 Cap

16 Vacuum Hose

With a check valve and also a vacuum sensor (G608) on vehicles with a hydraulic brake booster

Insert into brake booster

Vacuum sensor, removing and installing, refer to => [ Vacuum Sensor ] Service and Repair

17 Sealing Plugs

Connection for vacuum hose
