High Mount Power Steering Pump, Checking Delivery Pressure
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094)
• Power steering test unit (V.A.G 1402)
• Adapter (V.A.G 1402/1A)
• Adapter (V.A.G 1402/2)
• Pressure gauge adapter (V.A.G 1402/6)
• Pliers for spring-type clamps (VAS 5024A)
- Remove headlight.
- Clamp off return line and intake line accordingly using hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094).
- Place drip tray underneath.
- Remove pressurized line from pump.
Connect Power Steering Test Unit (V.A.G 1402).

5 Seal

7 Pressurized line with ring connection
8 Banjo fitting
- Remove hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094) from intake line and return line.
- Start engine and top off fluid level in reservoir if necessary.
- Turn steering wheel from stop to stop approximately 10 times.
- Check pumping pressure.
Test Requirements
• Ribbed belt/ribbed belt tension OK.
• Sealing of system
• Hoses/lines are not kinked or constricted
- With engine at idle speed, close stopcock (not more than 5 seconds) and read pressure.
Specified Value: 100 ± 4 bar
• If specification is not reached or exceeded, replace pump:
• Power steering pump, removing and installing => [ High Mount Power Steering Pump ] High Mount Power Steering Pump.
• If power steering fluid is low in the servo fluid reservoir, check steering system for leaks.
• In case of leaks at steering pinion, check lines/line connections for leaks, if necessary tighten and wipe dry.
• In case of leaks at steering pinion or at pinion shaft seal in steering housing, the steering gear must be replaced.
• To test rack seal open hose clamp of boots and set boots aside.
