ABS Light: Testing and Inspection
ABS, Brake and ASR/ESP Warning Lamp Malfunction Displays, from MY 2006
I - Warning Lamps
II - Warning Lamps
• ASR/ESP control lamp (K155) is used by ABS/EDL/ASR and ABS/EDL/ASR/ESP brake systems.
• For vehicles without ABS/ASR or ASR/ESP ASR/ESP control lamp (K155) is not installed.
Brake Pad Wear Indicator Lamp (K32 )
• If the brake pad wear indicator lamp ( K32) - 1 - does not go out after the ignition is switched on and the test sequence is complete, or it lights up while driving, it could be caused by the following errors:
a Brake pads may be worn.
Check front and rear brake pads => 14.1
- b - there is a malfunction in the activation of the brake pad wear indicator lamp (K32) for brake pad
In vehicles with display in instrument cluster, the information text appears:
"CHECK BRAKE PAD"
ABS Warning Lamp (K47)
• If the ABS warning lamp (K47) - 1 - does not go out after the ignition is switched on and the test sequence is complete, malfunction causes could be:
a Voltage supply is under 10 volts.
b There is an ABS malfunction.
The ABS system remains switched off during an ABS malfunction, but the traditional brake system remains fully functional.
c There was a sensor malfunction since the last vehicle start (sporadic).
In case of a sensor malfunction, the ABS warning lamp will go out automatically after vehicle is started again and a speed of 20 km/h has been exceeded.
d The connection between instrument cluster and ABS control module (J104) is interrupted.
e The instrument cluster is malfunctioning
ABS Warning Lamp (K47) and Brake System Warning Lamp (K118)
• If ABS warning lamp (K47) - 1 - goes out but brake system warning lamp (K118) - 2 - stays on while parking brake is released and 3 warning tones are heard, malfunction causes could be:
a The brake fluid level is too low.
b There is a malfunction in the activation of the brake system warning lamp (K118)
• If ABS warning lamp (K47) - 1 - and brake system warning lamp (K118) - 2 - are on, ABS is malfunctioning and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) has ceased functioning.
• If ABS warning lamp (K47) - 1 - and brake system warning lamp (K118) - 2 - only light up after 10 km/h or 2000 RPM are reached and 3 warning tones are heard, ABS and EBD have ceased functioning.
CAUTION!
After the ABS warning lamp (K47) and brake system warning lamp (K118) have lighted up, rear wheels may lock early during braking.
ASR/ESP Control Lamp (K155)
• If ASR/ESP control lamp (K155) - 3 - does not go out after ignition is switched on and the test sequence is complete, malfunction causes could be:
There is a malfunction that only affects the ASR/ESP system. The ABS/EDL and EBD safety systems are still completely functional.
a Short circuit to B+ in ASR/ESP button (E256).
b There is a short circuit to ground (GND) for activation of the ASR/ESP warning lamp.
c The connection between instrument cluster and ABS control module (J104) is interrupted.
d ASR/ESP was switched off by ASR/ESP button (E256).
If the ASR/ESP control lamp (K155) lights up for 100 milliseconds after ignition is switched on, a code has been entered that does not include ASR/ESP regulation.
Coding ABS control module (J104):
If the ASR/ESP control lamp (K155) blinks while driving, the ASR or ESP system is in regulating mode.
ABS Warning Lamp (K47), Brake System Warning Lamp (K118) and ASR/ESP Control Lamp (K155)
• If ABS warning lamp (K47) - 1 - and brake system warning lamp (K118) - 2 - blink, whereas ASR/ESP control lamp (K155) - 3 - remains lit, the control module has not been coded or the coding is 00000.
Coding ABS control module (J104):
