Rear Brakes






Brake Pads

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Resetting and extracting tool (T10165)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

When removing, mark brake pads that will be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!

- Remove wheels.

- Remove clip - 1 -.





- Press brake lever - 2 - in direction of - arrow - and disengage parking brake cable - 3 -.

- Counter-hold guide pins and remove attachment bolts from brake caliper housing.





- Remove brake caliper housing and secure with wire so that the weight of the brake caliper does not burden or damage the brake hose.

- Remove brake pads and pad retaining springs - arrows -.





- Clean brake caliper housing, especially the adhesive surface for the brake pad, it must be free of residual adhesive and grease.

Use only appropriate solvents for cleaning brake caliper housing.

Installing

Before pushing back the piston, siphon some of the brake fluid out of the brake fluid reservoir. When siphoning brake fluid, always use a plastic bleeder bottle that is used exclusively for brake fluid.

CAUTION!
Brake fluid is poisonous. NEVER siphon brake fluid with your mouth!

- Install pistons at knurling wheel of special tool resetting and extracting tool (T10165) - 1 - by turning toward right. Do not damage protective caps.





Insert resetting and extracting tool (T10165) - 1 - so that collar - arrow - on tool makes contact at brake caliper.

For pistons that are difficult to move, an open-end wrench (size 13 mm) can be applied at the appropriate wrench surface - arrow A -.

When the piston is mis-adjusted with a piston resetting tool , the automatic adjustment in the brake caliper will be destroyed.

- Insert brake pads and brake pad retaining springs - arrows - into brake carrier.





- Remove protective foil on backing plate of brake pad.

- Secure brake caliper housing using new self-locking bolts.

Repair kit includes four self-locking hex-bolts which must always be installed.

- Press brake lever - 2 - in direction of - arrow - and engage parking brake cable - 3 -.





- Install clip - 1 -.

- Adjust parking brake => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- Mount wheels.

Tighten wheel bolts.

After replacing brake pads and before moving vehicle, always depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

Check brake fluid level after replacing brake pad.
