Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Spring-type Clip Pliers (VAS 5024A)


When disconnecting and connecting the Battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the repair information. Refer to=> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

Removal

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Remove the bolts - arrows -.






- Release and disconnect the harness connector - arrow -.






- Loosen the spring clamp - arrow - using (VAS 5024).






- Remove the engine cover upward - arrows -.






- Slide the cap off the solenoid switch in - direction of arrow -.






- Remove the positive cable - 1 - and disconnect the connector from terminal 50 - 2 -.






- Remove the ground wire from the starter bolt - arrow -.






- Remove the starter bolt - arrow -.






- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the nut - 1 - from the bolt at the bottom of the starter.






- Remove the wire holder - 2 -.

- Remove the starter bolt - arrow -.






- Remove the starter.

Installation

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Tighten the threaded connections to the tightening specifications. Refer to => [ Starter Overview ] Service and Repair.
