Vehicle Information
Condition
Doors, Wind Noise at B Pillar
Wind noises / gap at door seal to B pillar area.
The inner door seal is on a body flange. Because of deviations in production the flange falls to the inside in the B pillar area.
As a result, the seal does not touch the door, see red arrow in the illustration 1. This leads to a swirling sound and there may even be some water drops in this area.
Production Solution
Pads fitted in some vehicles.
Service
Check for Pad Installation
If pads are on door seals, no further action required. If pads are not installed continue with service procedure.
The inner door seal must rest flush with the door.
Tip:
Because of the high strength panel, modifying the body flanges does not fix the complaint.
By sticking two pads on the inner door seal, the B pillar trim will contact the seal and the gap closes.
Install Pad
Step 1:
Cut the pad (251 201 525) in two equal parts, illustration 2.
Step 2:
Stick the two pads on the inner door seal.
^ Pull the trim slightly off the seal and if necessary position it with a wedge.
Tip:
Stick pad 1 under the B pillar trim and pad 2 under the side trim, illustration 3. The point for sticking it on the door seal is the slightly serrated edge, see red arrow.
Step 3:
Feed the trim back into the seal.
Tip:
Feed the trim back into the seal.
