Headliner







Headliner

Removing

- If present, open sunroof.

- Switch off ignition.

- Remove the front interior lamp (W1).

- Remove roof end strip. Refer to => [ Roof End Strip ] Roof End Strip

- Remove right side instrument panel cover => [ Instrument Panel Side Covers ] Instrument Panel Side Covers

- Remove the right A-pillar center trim. Refer to => [ Center A-Pillar Trim ] Center A-Pillar Trim

- Remove the right A-pillar upper trim. Refer to => [ Upper A-Pillar Trim ] Upper A-Pillar Trim

- Loosen the left A-pillar trim where it contacts the headliner.

- Remove upper B-pillar trim. Belt anchors or front belt anchor rails do not have to be removed. Refer to => [ Upper B-Pillar Trim ] Upper B-Pillar Trim

2-door vehicle only

- Remove the seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat

- Remove the backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Backrest

- Remove side trim. Refer to => [ Side Trim, 2-door ] Side Trim, 2-door

- Remove the storage compartment from the side luggage compartment cover. Refer to => [ Storage Compartment, Luggage Compartment Cover ] Storage Compartment, Luggage Compartment Cover

- Remove the trim from the C-pillars. Refer to => [ C-Pillar Trim ] C-pillar Trim

4-door vehicle only

- Remove the airbag emblems - 1 - and bolts - 2 - (4 Nm) from both C-pillars.

When re-installing, airbag emblems - 1 - must be replaced.

- Remove nuts - 3 - from each (1.5 Nm).

- Loosen trim from nut threaded pins - 3 - - arrow A -.

- Remove trim from mounts - arrow B - and door seal molding.

Completely removing C-pillar trim is not necessary on 4-door vehicles.






Vehicles with sunroof

- Push the wedge (T10039/1) between frame - 1 - and headliner - 2 -.

- Using the release lever (T10039/1) , separate the frame in - direction of the arrow - from the headliner, the whole way around.






- Remove the sun visors - 1 -. Refer to => [ Sun Visor ] Sun Visor.

- Remove right and left roof grab handles - 2 - and - 3 -. Refer to => [ Roof Grab Handles ] Service and Repair

- Remove the two bolts - 4 - (2 Nm).

- Lower headliner slightly and (depending on vehicle equipment) disconnect wiring harnesses from headliner.

- Remove headliner from vehicle through the rear lid.






Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal.

- If the vehicle has a console in the headliner, then remove the remaining clamp mounts near the four threaded holes - 1 - and - 2 -.






4-door vehicles: Two additional technicians are needed to install the headliner correctly above the C-pillars.
